At Youth for Sustainable Development (YSD), we believe that digital skills are a gateway to opportunity. In today’s world, access to technology is essential for education, employment, and active citizenship. Yet, for many young people in Kenya, digital access remains a luxury rather than a right.
We run a digital skills training programme aimed at equipping youth with essential computer literacy, coding, and online entrepreneurship skills. Every month, we train 50 young people – split into two cohorts: one in the morning and one in the afternoon, Monday to Friday, for four weeks. That’s 600 young people per year who are eager to learn and transform their futures.
The Challenge We Face
Right now, we are training 50 participants each month – but we only have 6 working computers. This means:
- Participants have to take turns using the limited computers, slowing down learning.
- Some students rely on handwritten notes instead of hands-on practice.
- Many cannot complete assignments or apply for online jobs because they lack access.
Despite their determination, lack of resources is holding them back. With more computers, laptops, and tablets, we can ensure that every participant gets equal access to learning and opportunities.

Early Intervention in Schools – Laying the Foundation
Beyond digital training, our Early Intervention Programme ensures that students have access to technology and career-building resources from an early stage, helping them:
✅ Discover their strengths and explore potential career paths
✅ Develop essential digital literacy in line with the new curriculum
✅ Engage in interactive learning using tablets and laptops to enhance their education
With access to the right tools, we can ensure no student is left behind in an increasingly digital world.
The Dream Makers Programme – Empowering Young Adults
For young people aged 18+, our Dream Makers Programme provides the digital tools, mentorship, and training needed to transition from education to employment. Through access to laptops, professional software, and online resources, participants can:
🔹 Build employability skills – Learn CV writing, job application techniques, and interview preparation
🔹 Gain practical digital experience – Use industry-standard tools for work and creative projects
🔹 Engage in mentorship & career development workshops – Access guidance from professionals to navigate their next steps
🔹 Develop leadership & active citizenship skills – Participate in real-world projects that make a difference
By contributing to this fundraiser, you’re breaking barriers to digital access and employability for young people who need it most. Every donation, big or small, directly funds the technology and training that will empower the next generation to build brighter futures.

How Digital Access Will Change Lives
Your support can help us bridge the digital divide, break barriers and empower young people to:
- 💻 Develop critical digital skills – Equipping them with the tools they need to participate in the modern workforce and gain employment opportunities.
- 📚 Access online education – From coding to business courses, the internet offers countless opportunities for growth and learning that they currently can’t access.
- 🚀 Explore career opportunities – By learning how to market and sell online, young people can tap into entrepreneurial ventures, remote work, and further training, helping lift families out of poverty.
